There are Great Grey Owls hunting out in open fields at the moment in Oulu, Finland. This is earlier than normally in Finnish winters. One reason might be that there is thicker snow cover than in normal winters. Also snow cover is quite hard since there has been some milder days between the cold cays.
Days are still very short and there is not too much light, especially when it is cloudy day. Hopefully the owls will stay through the winter and later in January there will be much more light available to photograph them – especially if we get the high pressure from Siberia with cold temperatures and clear skies!
At the moment the owls are hunting in natural way – flying and diving to catch the voles under the snow. They also spend a lot of time on snow and hopping around after the voles.
This photo is taken with Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II + Zuiko 300mm f4, 1/1250s, f4, ISO3200. Sequential Low, Continuous AF, C-AF lock -2, camera handheld (naturally).
